Museum Wayang - culture

Still around the Old City Area Batavia, there's a museum called the Museum Wayang. The museum is located one area with Fatahillah museum, adjacent to the Museum of Bank Indonesia, Bank Mandiri Museum and Museum of Ceramics. The museum is a collection of puppets from the regions in Indonesia such as Java, Sunda, Bali, Lombok, Sumatra and also abroad including Malaysia, Surinam, Kelantan, France, Cambodia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Britain, America and Thailand. Total collection of approximately 5147 pieces obtained from purchases, grants, donations and deposits.
Puppet etymologically derived from the word 'shadow'. This puppet was originally used to communicate with ancestral spirits or ancestors, and instrumentality is called mastermind. But eventually evolved into a means of entertainment, education, media, information and moral teachings.
Puppet Museum itself was inaugurated by Governor of Jakarta at that time that Ali Sadikin on August 13, 1975. The museum was formerly known as Batavia Museum which opened in 1939 by Governor-General of the Netherlands is Tjarda van Starkenborgh Stachouwer. This building was built in Neo-Renaissance style in 1912 and renovated in 1938 and adjusted to the Dutch-style house at the time. This building is not a former Dutch church building, because the church building had collapsed due to earthquake. But it stands on the former land of the Dutch Church Hollandse Nieuwe Kerk, or New (1736) and the Old Dutch Church or Oude Hollandse Kerk (1640-1732).

Musical accompaniment

Upon entering the museum building, we will be greeted by a pair of "Ondel-ondel" namely traditional art betawi. Besides puppets, all the equipment around 'puppetry' is also displayed in this museum, ranging from light to shadow puppet tool, to create a shadow behind a screen, called Lights Blencong, there are also musical instruments such as the gamelan accompaniment, which is usually used to stage puppet shows, etc..
China Puppet

Puppet Collection at the Museum consists of several devices Wayang Kulit, Wayang Marionette, a variety of masks, puppets glass, zinc puppets, paintings and dolls from overseas. Some rare collection of Intan Nusantara, among others, Wayang, Wayang Suket, Click Here and Wayang Puppet Revolution. Inside there is also a famous puppet lho, namely the Unyil and his friends, who had aired on TVRI in the 80s.
Inscription


In the middle of the building on the ground floor there is the Garden, called Wayang Museum Park. There appear several inscriptions from the Dutch Jan Pieterszoon Coen years including 1634. There is also space Punakawan that can be used for various activities such as seminars, informal discussion, performances, shows, etc. Mini. Puppet Museum and featuring regular performances at 10:00 to 14:00 every Sunday the 2nd (Marionette puppet show) and last Sunday (leather puppet show), but to be sure, please call to get there first.

Puppet Museum is currently expanding into new building next to them. The building looks almost complete, and modern design. Equipped with an elevator to facilitate the diffable or the elderly.

On the ground floor near the exit, there are several stalls selling souvenirs such as Marionette Puppet, Wayang Kulit, shadow puppet books, key chains, ornaments, and various other goods. Toilets are freely available, it looks quite nice (because it is located in the new building), but unfortunately the water was flowing just a little ... and see a lot of people are free to smoke in front of a toilet room that is still in the building of this museum.
